GB U18 Women name World Championship squad

Great Britain Under-18 Women have named their squad for the upcoming World Championship (Division 1) in Germany.

The six-team tournament, which will take place in Fussen, will run from 29th March to 4th April 2014.

GB will come up against hosts Germany, along with France, Norway, Switzerland and Slovakia.

Head coach, Sean Alderson, said: “The team we have selected this year is very young, with only a quarter of the team being top age in comparison to half the team over the previous two seasons.

“Competition for places throughout the trials, training sessions and training camps has been very good and, despite being a young side, we feel it will be a competitive one.

“In addition to the 20 players we have selected, four further players (reserves) will continue to train with the team right up until the World Championship tournament to allow a smooth transition should, for any reason, someone need to be replaced.

“I and the rest of my staff are very excited to be going to Fussen. I have spoke to several players and coaches who have been to Fussen with various teams and they all speak very highly of both the rink and the town.

“Following our promotion up to Division 1 last season this will be a tough championship for us but our goal is a simple one – maintain Division One status.

“We have training sessions at the end of both this month and next before our final preparation camp in March and we also have a challenge game arranged in Fussen against France a couple of days ahead of the tournament.”
