Great Britain set up promotion chance with gritty victory over Italy

Great Britain are in with a chance of winning promotion to the top flight of the World Championship structure following a stunning 4-3 victory over Italy in Budapest on Friday.

GB will be guaranteed their first return to the elite level since 1994 if they pick up a least a point against hosts Hungary tomorrow.

Brett Perlini (2), Robert Dowd and Ben O’Connor got the goals for GB to send them to the top of Division 1A with one game to play.

Head coach, Pete Russell, said: “I have said this week ‘dare to dream’ and I will say it again. This was something else. The performance they put in tonight was out of this world.

“We had amazing backing from our wonderful supporters and everyone came together on another great night.

“The boys dug deep, they find a way and now know they can create some history, but we have to continue in the same manner we have all tournament.”

GB play their final game on Saturday when they face Hungary (face-off 6.30pm UK time).
