Grubb delighted to see trio of Solway youngsters given Scotland opportunity

Solway Sharks’ head coach Martin Grubb praised three of the club’s young players after they represented Scotland at the first U11 Conference series event in Dumfries last weekend.

Bailey Thomson, Owen Rae and Ewan Duignan all play for the Solway Sharks Juniors U12 team and helped their country pick up two wins and a draw from their four games during the tournament.

The EIHA and Scottish Ice Hockey formed the U11 series to give the players more competitive games against better players, while a larger squad size enabled the Conferences to bring in fringe and younger players into the system and experience Conference ice hockey for the first time.

“”It is really satisfying to see the younger players in the club come through and start to make their mark at the higher level,” said Grubb.

“It is a great achievement not only for the players, but also for their coaches, and the Solway Junior club.

“These kids always work hard and are keen to do their best, and I am delighted that their efforts have been recognised and rewarded.

“The boys all played their hearts out, and are sure to have impressed the national coaches with their effort and determination, not to mention high level of skill.”
