Assistant coach Paul Heavey says Great Britain Under-20s have a great mix of youth and experience in the squad for this year’s World Championship (Division 1B) in Dumfries.
>The six-team competition, where GB will come up against France, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine, will get under way on Monday 9th December.
GB continue their preparations for the tournament with a match against a Scottish Elite Select side tonight (Thursday) at the Dumfries Ice Bowl (8pm).
>Heavey said: “I love the game and everything associated with it. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be part of this team and the opportunity that awaits us.
“This is the GB national team and I am very proud to represent my country. I will give everything I can to ensure we achieve our full potential.
“We are the host nation, so we need to use that to our advantage in any way we can as it might be a very long time before that happens again.
“We certainly do not underestimate the challenge ahead of us as there are some great teams in this tournament.
“But we have an experienced coaching staff with Peter at the helm and a good mix of experience and youth on our team.
“They all skate well and if we all give 110%, believe in what we are doing, understand how privileged we are, accept our responsibilities and roles and get some bounces going our way, then who knows what could happen.
“I truly hope UK hockey fans get behind us. It would be great to see the Solway rink full of GB fans cheering us on, as that might just be the edge that helps us achieve our goal.”
