The Edinburgh Capitals etched their name in history by clinching the inaugural Northern League Trophy in a nail-biting showdown against the Kilmarnock Thunder. The weekend started with the Blackburn Hawks hosting the Kirkcaldy Kestrels on Saturday, where the Hawks secured a 2-1 win against the Fife side. This victory set the stage for a highly anticipated clash between the Capitals and the Thunder on Sunday.

The Capitals faced a tough challenge as they battled neck-and-neck with the Thunder for the first two periods, with both teams tallying five goals each. However, the Capitals dug deep and showcased their resilience, netting an additional four goals in the final period to secure a dramatic victory.

Capitals head coach Steven Lynch said, “We’re obviously delighted to pick up our first piece of silverware on Sunday night. Hopefully the guys can use that as a catalyst to push on for the remainder of the season.”

“The game itself wasn’t fantastic. I thought we had control of the game by the midway point, but we gave away three pretty soft goals at the tail end of the 2nd period. But we came out all guns blazing in the 3rd to make sure we got the win and the trophy.”

We enjoyed playing in the Northern League and I thought it was beneficial to us and hopefully we get to do it again next year.”
