Scotland U13 travel to iceSheffield this weekend hoping for better luck than last season’s side enjoyed at the Conference tournament.
A 3-2 defeat after a shoot-out against South East was a heartbreaking way to end the event and it is hoped that this year’s team can go one better.
Team manager Andrea Brown is confident that the current crop of players can do themselves justice this weekend.
“Our squad features a diverse pool of talent from up and down the country,” she said. “Players from Dundee, Fife, North Ayrshire, Kilmarnock and Solway have come together to form a fearless young team who hope to make it all the way to the final as we did at last season’s tournament.
“The team were rocked with the news that alternate captain Gary Kelly sustained a fractured collar bone during Dundee’s league decider against Belfast in the run-up to the event, and his fitness to play is yet to be confirmed.
“Committed reserve defenceman Cameron Wilkie was drafted in to ensure that we are not left short-benched for this important event which marks the end of a nine month period of intensive training for the dedicated youngsters.
“The coaching team, led by Richie Phillips, Andy Anderson and Daniel Ferguson, are looking forward to seeing their squad taking part in some competitive games against the cream of British talent and we wish all those taking part a successful and enjoyable weekend of hockey.”
The four-day event takes place from Friday 25th to Monday 28th May.
The weekend begins with a Scotland versus England U19 international on the first day, with the Conference games starting early on Saturday.
There are five Conferences – Scotland, Northern, Midlands, South East and South West – with teams competing at U11, U13, U15 and U17 level.
Each age group is a five-team round robin, with the top two in each group progressing to finals on the Monday.
