Treble-chasing Fife Falcons face tough Coventry Blaze test live on TV

Fife Falcons travel to iceSheffield this weekend aiming to win the Ice Hockey UK U20 Championship for the second year in a row.

The Falcons will face English champions Coventry Blaze on Saturday in a repeat of last year’s final.

The game, which is part of the EIHA’s National Finals Weekend, will be screened live on FreeSports from 2.30pm.

Hot on the heels of broadcasting GB’s gold medal success from Hungary, FreeSports is continuing its commitment to the next generation of hockey players by showcasing their games to the widest possible audience.

Richard Webb, Operations Director at FreeSports, said: “Our ice hockey coverage continues to grow and we are delighted to bring the U20 championship live from Sheffield.

We will continue to showcase the best of the junior ice hockey from this season’s tournaments as we have done these past two years and we hope hockey fans still smiling from last week’s events in Budapest can enjoy even more of the best Britain has to offer.”

Goals by Scott Jamieson and Chad Smith gave Fife a 2-0 victory in 2017 and the team will head to South Yorkshire full of confidence after completing the league and cup double this season.

Fife’s 3-2 road victory over Solway Sharks during March booked their place in the final, while Coventry claimed their second successive league title in England with a 1-0 success against Whitley Bay back in February.

The Scottish side head to Sheffield on the back of an impressive performance against Solway in the final of the Scottish U20 Cup.

Period scores of 5-0, 6-2 and 2-0 sealed an impressive 13-2 success for Fife, but they are likely to find things much tougher against a Coventry side who went unbeaten during their league campaign.
