New Year, New Challenges: SNL Action Returns with Key Clashes Across Scotland

The Scottish National League (SNL) is back for 2025 with three games to light up the new year. A shake-up in the league standings over the festive season has seen Dundee Rockets take the top spot, Edinburgh Capitals move into second, and Aberdeen Lynx slip to third. Here’s a look at this weekend’s action:

North Ayrshire Wild vs. Dundee Rockets

📍 Auchenharvie Ice Rink

The Rockets head west to take on the Wild in Auchenharvie, just a week after a one-sided 14-1 victory in Dundee. However, their last visit to Wild’s home ice was a much closer contest, ending in a 4-0 win.

Sitting at the top of the league, the Rockets will be aiming to secure another two points and bolster their goal difference in what is shaping up to be a tight title race. For Wild, who are near the foot of the table, this is an opportunity to put on a stronger showing in front of their home crowd and push themselves against the league’s best.

Edinburgh Capitals vs. Kirkcaldy Kestrels

📍 Murrayfield Ice Rink

The Capitals enjoyed a successful Christmas period, picking up six points from three games and climbing into second place with 22 points. The Kestrels, currently on 15 points, have a game in hand and will be determined to stay in contention in the league’s middle pack.

This will be the third meeting between the teams this season but the first at Murrayfield. Their previous encounters in Fife were split, with each side taking a win. With both teams pushing to solidify their positions, this game promises to deliver plenty of action and could go either way.

Aberdeen Lynx vs. Kilmarnock Thunder

📍 Linx Ice Arena – Sold Out

Aberdeen Lynx will look to start the year strong after slipping to third place in the standings. In a sold-out clash at Linx Ice Arena, they host Kilmarnock Thunder, who sit in seventh place.

The Lynx have won both previous meetings with Thunder this season, including an emphatic victory the last time the teams met in Aberdeen. While Kilmarnock have shown promise, they’ll need a special performance to challenge a Lynx side eager to stay in the title hunt.

As the league heats up, each team will be looking to set the tone for the rest of the season. From top-table clashes to battles for pride, this weekend’s games are sure to deliver!
