SNL Action Heats Up: Lynx Regain 2nd, Rockets Extend Streak, and Kestrels Triumph in Edinburgh

After the Christmas festivities, teams hit the ice for their first 2025 games this weekend, with three exciting SNL matchups.

Aberdeen Lynx 6 – Kilmarnock Thunder 2

Aberdeen Lynx entered the weekend needing a win to stay in contention at the top of the table. Having led for much of the season, the Lynx recently slipped to 3rd place as Dundee Rockets overtook them during the festive period. Determined to reclaim ground, the Lynx dominated the game from the start, creating numerous chances.

Ross McIntosh broke the deadlock in the first period, finally beating Thunder netminder Harry Campbell. Jordan Leyden added a second goal early in the second period, and Brant Saretsky followed up with a third to give the Lynx a comfortable lead.

Thunder showed fight in the final period, with Mack Harris netting two goals in quick succession—his first SNL goals, earning him Man of the Match for Thunder. However, Lynx responded strongly, scoring three more goals to secure a convincing 6-2 victory. The win lifts Aberdeen back into 2nd place, keeping them within reach of the Rockets.

North Ayrshire Wild 0 – Dundee Rockets 6

Dundee Rockets, who recently claimed the top spot from Aberdeen Lynx, extended their winning streak with a decisive victory over North Ayrshire Wild at Auchenharvie.

The first period was competitive, with the Wild managing to frustrate the Rockets and keep the scoreline level. However, the Rockets broke through in the second period when John Gordon opened the scoring at 24 minutes. Drew Rumgay added a power-play goal to make it 2-0 by the end of the frame.

The third period showcased the Rockets’ firepower, with Michael Ireland, Grant Reekie, and two goals from Michel Beca capping off a strong performance. The 6-0 win secures another two points for the Rockets, who continue to build momentum at the top of the table as they hold a 2 point lead over the Lynx.

Edinburgh Capitals 3 – Kirkcaldy Kestrels 5

After a six-point week prior to the break, Edinburgh Capitals aimed to continue their streak on home ice against Kirkcaldy Kestrels. The game started brightly for the Capitals, who opened the scoring less than six minutes into the first period with a power-play goal from Ross Borwick. However, the Kestrels responded later in the period with an equaliser from Scott Jamieson.

In the second period, Grant Jamieson gave the Kestrels the lead, but Rihards Grigors quickly leveled the game for the Capitals.

Heading into the final period, James Isaacs put the Capitals ahead 3-2. However, the Kestrels mounted a stunning comeback in the final seven minutes, scoring twice on the power play before Allan Anderson sealed the win with a shorthanded goal in the dying seconds. The 5-3 result marks a big win for the Kestrels and a setback for the Capitals.
