Kestrels Edge Warriors in Kirkcaldy
One of Saturday’s key matchups took place in Kirkcaldy, where the Kestrels earned a 2–1 victory over Whitley Warriors in a closely matched game decided entirely in the second period. Allan Anderson struck first for the hosts, Phil Edgar levelled for Whitley on the power play a few minutes later, and Callum McLaren restored the Kestrels’ lead less than a minute after the equaliser. A tight final period followed, but Kirkcaldy held firm to secure their first win over Whitley in their third meeting of the season.
Thunder Tested, Rockets Clinical
Kilmarnock Thunder faced a difficult evening at home, falling 13–4 to the Dundee Rockets. Despite the margin, Thunder had bright moments, including two goals from 15-year-old Mylo Wylie, but the Rockets’ experienced and well-drilled lineup controlled the contest throughout.
Shootout Needed in Auchenharvie
Aberdeen Lynx took two points from a tightly contested 2–1 shootout win against North Ayrshire Wild in Auchenharvie, with both sides operating short benches. Aberdeen iced just 12 plus 2, while Wild were also depleted, contributing to a close and hard-worked contest throughout.
The Lynx opened the scoring in the first period when captain Ben Edmonds converted a rebound, before Wild replied in the second with a short-handed goal from Dylan Murray.
Extended pressure at both ends defined the third period, with fatigue becoming evident and several minor penalties breaking up play. With no winner in regulation or in the fast-paced overtime, the match went to a shootout. Ben Edmonds and Conor Duncan scored for Aberdeen, while Haydn Woods converted for Wild, and the Lynx ultimately came away with the extra point.
Sunday’s Matchups
Sunday’s action began in Whitley Bay, where the Warriors defeated Solway Sharks 3–1. Solway, travelling with a short bench, opened the scoring just two minutes into the game through Andrew Craik. Whitley equalised late in the second period when Dean Holland found the net, and the hosts then moved ahead ten minutes into the third through Ben Richards. Solway pulled their goalie in the final minute while chasing the equaliser, but Whitley capitalised with Phil Edgar scoring into the empty net.
The weekend closed with a narrow 3–2 win for the Paisley Pirates against Dundee Rockets. Pirates opened the scoring through Aiden Wilson before Rockets equalised late in the first period with a power-play marker from Cameron McGiffin. Paisley regained the lead in the second and extended it midway through the third after taking advantage of a Rockets penalty. Dundee responded through Rio Page and continued to apply pressure, outshooting the hosts, but Daniel McGowan strong performance in goal ensured the Pirates held on for the victory.
League Picture
Across the full weekend, league positions remained largely unchanged. The only movement came as North Ayrshire Wild moved above Solway Sharks after securing an overtime point against Aberdeen. With Edinburgh Capitals not in action, Whitley Warriors moved to the top of the table, while the rest of the standings remain tightly grouped following another weekend of narrow scorelines.
