League champions Fife Falcons made it a double for the season with a comprehensive 13-2 victory over Solway Sharks in the Scottish U20 Cup final at Fife Ice Arena on Saturday.
Period scores of 5-0, 6-2 and 2-0 sealed an impressive success for Fife who will now switch their attentions to retaining their British Championship title against Coventry Blaze in May.
Coach Steven Lynch said: “Both Scott (Plews) and I were delighted with the result on Saturday in the Scottish Cup Final but, more importantly, with the way the team applied what we have been putting in place in practice in the weeks leading up to the game – the performance was without a doubt our best of the season.
“I felt we controlled the game from start to finish, forechecked well, moved the puck quickly and executed our scoring chances both five-on-five and on the powerplay which looked dangerous. We couldn’t have asked for more from the players.
“Things look to be peaking for us just at the right time as we now turn our attention towards defending our British champions title by beginning our preparation for that final on 5th May in Sheffield.
“These young players have been raising the bar game-after-game as the season has progressed and I still think they have it in them to take it to another level again against Coventry.”
