GB Women U18 name strong squad for World Championship tournament

Great Britain Women U18 have named their squad for next month’s World Championship (Division 1B) tournament in Scotland.

The six-team IIHF tournament runs from 6-12th January at Dumfries Ice Bowl and GB will host China, France, Poland, Netherlands and Norway.

GB’s first game is on Sunday 6th January against Poland, before facing France U18 Women the following day.

After a rest day, GB then go head-to-head with Norway on Wednesday 9th January.

A second rest day is followed by GB facing China on Friday 11th January and the tournament is wrapped up with Great Britain against Netherlands 24 hours later.

Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “This was one of the toughest under-18 squads the coaching staff have ever had to name.

“There is so much competition for places but that is a great position to be in for the women’s programme.

“It will be a tough tournament for sure as there are some top nations competing and many of the roster are still very young.

“But we have had good preparation and I know the squad is really looking forward to playing on home ice.”
