Kerr praises Solway youngster for progression into Great Britain set-up

Solway Sharks’ U20 coach Jamie Kerr says Megan Gourlay’s ‘attitude and desire’ has helped her secure a place in the Great Britain set-up.

Gourlay is one of only three Scottish-based girls, along with Audrey Wood and Sophie Campbell, to be selected for the GB Women U18 squad for the four-team tournament in Poland this weekend.

Despite playing her first game of ice hockey just three years ago, Gourlay has excelled at club level with Solway Sharks Juniors and has been rewarded with recognition at internatonal level.

“It is a great honour for Megan to represent her country and her phenomenal progress in the sport since coming to us in late 2015 is testament to her attitude and desire,” said Kerr.

“She is a role model young athlete that transfers those attributes onto the ice and due to being such a strong skater, as well as her determination to develop her skills of the game, she improves week-by-week.

“Megan has come on so much since playing her first game three years ago and her current selection for GB is a much deserved reward.

“She is yet another shining example of some of the quality national and international junior players our small club can produce.”
