Jamie Kerr has tipped two Solway Sharks juniors to shine when they represent Great Britain U18 this spring.
Lewis Houston and Liam Stenton have both been selected in the GB U18 squad for their World Championship (Division 1B) tournament in Hungary during April.
The pair both have previous experience of playing for GB at U16 level and Kerr believes they will take the step up in their stride.
“With Martin (Grubb) their senior Sharks coach taking the GB team as head coach this year, the boys have been watched more than any of the others,” he said.
“Their performances have been observed every week by him, so he knows in what roles they can be relied on.
“From my point of view, knowing their attitudes, abilities and overall character, I have no doubt that the lads will play key roles in this year’s talented team and underline their position in the new higher division to give themselves a shot of bringing a medal home.”
Houston was selected for the U18 side last season but was forced to withdraw at short notice due to injury.
He missed the team winning gold in Estonia to secure their Division 1B berth and is eager to make up for lost time.
“I’m proud to be representing Great Britain – we have a strong team and I’m looking forward to playing with a good bunch of guys.”
Stenton, who has gained considerable experience with the Sharks’ senior side in NIHL North this season, added: “It’s an honour to get picked. The team looks really solid and I hope to keep working hard and improving with my Sharks teams to be as ready as possible.
“It’s going to be great playing with this GB squad.”
