Scotland U17 coach praises impact of monthly Development Days

Scotland U17 coach Jamie Thomson believes that monthly development sessions have helped to improve the quality of his squad.

The U17 side will face their four English counterparts at the Conference Weekend in Sheffield with five new players in their ranks.

Some of the squad have already gained experience in the senior game and Thomson is happy with the quality of players taking part in the event.

“Again this year the Conference squad was selected from a series of monthly trials and latterly training days,” he said.

“This year we are extremely happy with the progress made and the proof that the monthly Development Days are working are clear, as we include five first time picks this year in the U17 team.

“We’re really looking forward to Conference this year and wish all the other squads good luck.”

The four-day event takes place from Friday 25th to Monday 28th May.

The weekend begins with a Scotland versus England U19 international on the first day, with the Conference games starting early on Saturday.

There are five Conferences – Scotland, Northern, Midlands, South East and South West – with teams competing at U11, U13, U15 and U17 level.

Each age group is a five-team round robin, with the top two in each group progressing to finals on the Monday.
