Four goals in 84 seconds helped Dundee Tigers dig themselves out of a hole against Solway Stingrays on Saturday.
The visitors led 4-2 midway through the game, but Dundee finally woke up as Grant Reekie (2), Kier Grant and Paul Guilcher added to first period goals by Richy Fox and Ryan Smith to make it 6-4 to the home side at the second break.
Scott Marr bagged another goal in the final period and although Solway pulled one back the home team comfortably saw the game out.
The result ensures the Tigers will finish the regular season in the top eight and guarantees their place in the quarter-finals of the SNL play-offs.
Tigers’ defender Ian Carstairs said: “We made the game tougher on ourselves that we needed to. We outplayed the Stingrays in the first period, but found ourselves level at the buzzer.
“There was maybe a bit of complacency there and we had a terrible first five minutes of the second period and found ourselves in a hole.
“The guys showed a lot of character though and we absolutely grabbed control of the game with an amazing couple of shifts where we scored four in less than 90 seconds to give us a nice cushion going in to the last period.
“We took a couple of avoidable penalties in the third period and we were under pressure from a Stingrays team that didn’t give up, but we managed to do enough to get the two points we set out for.”
