Aberdeen Lynx visit Kilmarnock Thunder in the Scottish Cup on Saturday aiming to put a disappointing start to the season firmly behind them.
Lynx have played seven games in the inaugural Stuart Robertson Cup this term, with the opening day victory over Dundee Tigers their only success to date.
Despite the results forward Iain Malcolm believes that the team can take plenty of positives from the way they have performed this term.
“We’ve had a strange start to the season with availability of guys meaning we’ve rarely had enough guys for three lines, let alone getting some continuity,” he said.
“This considered, our results have been pretty encouraging with our defeats from (Dundee) Comets, Kirkcaldy (Kestrels) and Murrayfield (Racers) being very tight games. On any day those games could have gone either way.
“The boys are looking forward to getting the league and Scottish Cup underway and we will be well prepared for Kilmarnock on Saturday.”
Murrayfield travel to face North Ayrshire Wild in the second leg of their Scottish Cup quarter-final tie on Saturday hoping to book their place in the last four.
The Racers hold a 4-2 lead from their first meeting and experienced forward Martin Cingel has backed his team to come out on top.
“North Ayrshire proved that they are much improved side this year and it will be a hard battle,” he said. “However, I’m confident that we can get a result and progress to the next stage.”
The Edinburgh-based side return to home ice the following day to play Telford Tigers in the NIHL North Cup.
They have lost all four games against their Moralee D1 counterparts this term and Cingel admits that the Tigers will provide another tough test.
“There is no pressure on us on Sunday against Telford,” he added. “They have a lot of experience between their players and it won’t be an easy game at all.
“For us it means we need to be switched on for the whole game and stick with our game plan.”
