SNL preview: Kestrels aiming to double up against Lynx, Tigers face tough Racers test

Kirkcaldy Kestrels host Aberdeen Lynx on Sunday aiming to record their second victory in the newly-formed Stuart Robertson Cup.

The two sides met in Aberdeen two weeks ago and Kirkcaldy came out on top in the eastern group fixture courtesy of a 3-2 success.

Kestrels’ captain Conor Duncan was amongst the scorers that evening and he is anticipating another tight battle this weekend.

“Having played up there a fortnight ago we know to expect a very hard working and well-drilled Aberdeen team,” he said.

“I’m expecting it to be another hard and very close encounter.

“However, I’m feeling positive for our home opener. With the amount of quality we have and the same work ethic we will hopefully come away with the with another win and two points.”

Dundee Tigers face a tough test when they visit Murrayfield Racers this weekend.

The Tigers haven’t played since losing 9-2 at Aberdeen on the opening day of the season and player/coach Ian Carstairs is hoping that the break doesn’t impact on their performance on Sunday.

“We’ve had a bit of a stuttering start to the season with our first game three weeks ago and nothing since,” he said.

“One thing that was evident in our last game was a lack of match fitness, and while we’ve worked hard at training over the past few weeks we know this is something we’ll need to manage.

“The Racers are a team that’s resourced to compete for the league title. They’re loaded with ex-Elite League experience and the cream of last year’s SNL Capitals team, so we’re expecting a fast-paced, well-drilled opposition in front of us.

“Our focus has to be on simplifying the way we play and being smart when we’re not in possession of the puck.

“We’ve added a couple of young players since our last game and they’ll be getting their first taste of SNL hockey this weekend.

“It’s going to be difficult for them to not get overwhelmed out there and we’ll be looking to our more experienced guys to mentor them through the game.”
