There’s a pre-Christmas cracker on Sunday as SNL title-chasers Paisley Pirates and Dundee Comets go head-to-head at Braehead Arena.
Paisley are currently fourth in the table, two points behind Dundee with two games in hand.
Both sides head into the game on the back of five-game winning streaks and Pirates’ netminder John Russell is expecting an epic battle against the Comets.
“Things are going well at Paisley so far this season,” said Russell. “We have a great bunch of lads in the changing room that all get on well and want to listen to the coaches to get better each week.
“The team have great facilities and the club is run so professionally – it is an honour to be back playing again for the club I left over ten years ago.
“We have Dundee Comets this week who must be considered along with Kirkcaldy (Kestrels) and Aberdeen (Lynx) as one of the favourites for the SNL title. It will be a very tough game for us and a massive challenge against a great team.
“I think we definitely go into this game as underdogs. We’ve just got to stick to own game, work hard and play for each other.”
After losing twice during October the Comets have bounced back in style to take maximum points from their last five games.
Player/Coach John Dolan is currently leading the points standings with 18 goals and 16 assists in 10 games and he is looking forward to taking on Paisley on their home ice.
“We had our little blip a few weeks back, but things are getting close now in the league as teams are taking points off each other,” he said.
“We know this is a big game this weekend against Paisley. Their team has changed a bit player-wise, but I think they will still bring a fast, physical game as always.
“We will be ready for this in their rink and we will bring our ‘A’ game as that is what will be needed.”
