SNL preview: Solway Stingrays eyeing first SNL points at Kilmarnock this weekend

Solway Stingrays travel to Kilmarnock Thunder on Saturday aiming to pick up their first points of the SNL season.

The Stingrays lost against Dundee Comets and Aberdeen Lynx over the opening two weeks of the campaign, but put up a much-improved performance at home to Moray Typhoons last weekend.

The visitors eventually claimed a hard-fought 8-6 success, but Stingrays’ boss Scott McMeeken believes the league new-boys are heading in the right direction.

“Saturday’s game is the battle of the new teams, but we will just focus on ourselves and make sure we keep making those improvements in our game to show that we can compete in this league,” said McMeeken.

“We showed last week that when we focus on playing we are capable of doing a good job, but we let ourselves down badly with our lack of discipline so that will be something we will address.

“I’m reasonably happy with our start. People might look at the big scorelines and be surprised with that, but we have a fairly inexperienced squad at this level so it’s going to take time for things to come together.

“The one thing that is very pleasing is the players’ attitude and workrate and as long as that remains high I’m absolutely confident we will be able to put in some good performances and achieve the results we ultimately will be looking for.”

Edinburgh Capitals SNL visit Dundee Tigers on Sunday hoping to continue their perfect start to the season.

The Capitals have recorded a pair of victories over North Ayrshire Wild without conceding a goal and defender Craig Main is eager to keep things going this weekend.

“It’s been a solid start to the season,” said Main. “We’ve had two comfortable wins which has set us up well. We have a much stronger team this year and we are working well together.

“Hopefully we will keep progressing throughout the coming months. We have our second away game of the season this weekend against the Tigers and we are particularly keen to continue our winning streak and bring back the points.”
