A superb late fightback by North Ayrshire Wild against Paisley Pirates put them within touching distance of a place in the final of the Stuart Robertson Cup.
Wild trailed 4-2 with just over a minute to play, but two quickfire goals by Alan Maitland (above) secured what could be a crucial point in the western section.
Paisley defeated Kilmarnock Thunder 12-1 on Sunday, but they must now beat Solway Stingrays by a 22-goal margin in their final group game to pip North Ayrshire to top spot.
Graeme Allan (2), Sean Cochrane (2) and Garry Simpson (2) topped the scoring for Kirkcaldy Kestrels in their 8-1 victory at Dundee Tigers on Saturday.
However, their hopes of winning the eastern group were dealt a severe blow as they fell 6-3 at home to Dundee Comets the following day – Adam McNicoll weighed in with a couple of goals for the visitors.
Murrayfield Racers remain bottom of the standings in the NHL North Cup after crashing to an 11-0 defeat at Solway Sharks.
