Solway Sharks Juniors rack up trio of wins against Lanarkshire Lightning

Solway Sharks’ U12 team were back in action last weekend after a break from fixtures and produced a spirited display to secure a hard fought victory over Lanarkshire Lightning.

Cassie McGregor (2), Tomas Vyrostek, Jaiden Simpson (above) and Owen Rae grabbed the goals for the young Sharks as they sealed a 5-2 win.

Assistant coach, Liam Stenton, said: “The team did a great job – I was proud of them all. They remembered what we have been doing in training and carried it into the game, showing the depth of talent we have in the team.

“They responded to what they were told during the game, and made a good Lanarkshire team work for their goals. We took our chances well when we got them, and the coaching team is delighted with the win.”

Solway’s U14 team also enjoyed a successful time of things against Lightning, recording a 6-4 victory. Kyle Carruth weighed in with a couple of goals to maintain the team’s solid start to the season.

Sharks’ U16 side (above) completed a trio of successes for the Dumfries club with a narrow 3-2 win over Lanarkshire. Scott Rae bagged a hat-trick for Solway.

Coach Gary Carruth said: “We spoke about our poor performance a few weeks ago when we played Lanarkshire away and agreed that today only a win was going to be acceptable.

“Everyone worked hard – we outworked Lanarkshire and we got the result in the end. I am proud of them all.”
