Solway Sharks U20 complete the double over Murrayfield

Solway Sharks U20 travelled to Murrayfield last weekend aiming to keep up the pressure on their title rivals.

The Sharks defeated the Edinburgh-based side 8-6 earlier in the season and they were once again pushed hard by their opponents. Lewis Houston (4). Scott Rae and Ruairi Lockerbie got the goals in a 6-3 success.

Sharks’ head coach Jamie Kerr said: “It was a far from impressive performance. I don’t doubt our effort, but we were caught either overthinking or not thinking in most of our play. This lead to a lack of expected ruthlessness and their goalie had a great game.

“That said, our goalie Brandon Rooney, although not too busy, produced some outstanding saves on big counter attack chances. I am hopeful the tame performance is a one-off and the players realise a consistently good level is paramount to U20 through to senior hockey.

“Credit is due however to the team for taking four points from two hardworking Murrayfield performances this year.”
