IIHF World Championship tournaments will be held in Scotland in January and April 2019 and the local organising committee is seeking volunteers to fill essential roles during the events.
Dumfries Ice Bowl will welcome countries competing in the World Championship for the U18 women’s tournament in January and the women’s senior event in April.
A number of roles are available, including drivers, goal judges, statistics assistants, video camera operators and game operations assistants.
If you want to apply or you’re interested and want to find out more, visit Dumfries Ice Bowl, King Street, Dumfries DG2 9AN or email Struan.Tonnar@dumgal.gov.uk.
Training for some of the technical roles will be provided so, if you’ve no experience, don’t let that put you off.
Councillor Adam Wilson, the council’s events champion, said: “The council really wants to celebrate the championships with the local community and becoming a volunteer is a great way to be a part of a world-class sporting occasion.
“Ice hockey is a thrilling live sport to enjoy and we want to continue the excellent work that has been started at the previous championships at Dumfries Ice Bowl.”
Brian McMeeken, a volunteer at previous events who is already planning to be help out again, said: “It’s great to be part of a world class event in my local town.
“It’s the sort of thing that doesn’t come around very often. The thing I like best is the atmosphere. And we get well looked after by the organising team in Dumfries. I’d encourage anyone to give it a go.”
