The SIH Women’s Section has had a busy and exciting start to its first year of operation. We have successfully established the first three registered SIH women’s clubs: Dundee Royals, Fife Arctic Foxes, and Glasgow Thistles. This marks a significant step forward—from girls and women previously being registered only through junior and recreational clubs, to now having over 140 players and officials registered with dedicated women’s clubs.
The momentum behind women’s hockey, and women’s sport more broadly, is extraordinary, and Scotland is no exception. More girls and women are playing than ever before. We recognise how important it is for every player to have the opportunity to participate at the right level within the SIH, EIH, and IHUK pathways, allowing them to develop, achieve their goals, and enjoy their hockey.
One of the most encouraging aspects of this season has been the incredible variety of players getting involved. This includes those playing hockey for the first time, players returning after time away due to career or family commitments, and experienced players who are now forming, managing, and coaching clubs—creating opportunities they themselves did not have growing up, while contributing directly to the growth of women’s hockey in Scotland.

Building a brand-new section from the ground up has inevitably come with challenges, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the clubs, the SIH Board, volunteers, players, and parents for their ongoing patience, passion, and support.
In May 2025, we held a highly successful Generate Draft event in Aberdeen, with around 50 players in attendance, and we are planning similar events across the country. It has also been fantastic to see the first SIH challenge matches take place between the clubs, as well as against recreational teams, as we work towards shaping and refining a league structure for future seasons. Alongside this, we continue to work closely with women’s and junior clubs, National Development representatives, and Scotland Girls team staff to ensure we reach girls across Scotland and provide a positive and valuable hockey experience.
We also have several exciting events planned for the remainder of the season—keep an eye on our social media channels for announcements coming soon.
