The SIH Recreational Plate heads to Dumfries this weekend as ten teams battle it out across two days of competitive hockey in one of the most closely contested tournaments in the Scottish recreational calendar.
As the second tier of the SIH Recreational tournament structure, the Plate regularly delivers high-tempo, end-to-end action, with every result carrying significant importance. Across the weekend, teams will compete in a total of 23 games, beginning with round-robin group stages before progressing to the semi-finals and final.
The tournament format sees the ten teams split into two groups of five, with each side playing four pool matches to determine who advances to the knockout stages.
There is plenty at stake beyond silverware. The two finalists will secure promotion to the 2027 Recreational Cup competition, while the bottom side in each group will drop into the 2027 Recreational Quaich.
Among the teams to watch are last season’s relegated Cup sides, Aberdeen North Stars and Irvine Flyers, both aiming to make an immediate return to the top level of Scottish recreational hockey. They are joined by 2025 Quaich champions Stirling Wolves and last year’s Quaich runners-up Dundee Knights, who will both be looking to continue their upward progression and challenge for promotion again.
With several teams capable of putting together a strong run over the weekend, the Plate is expected to be highly competitive from the opening face-off through to Sunday’s final.
Supporters are encouraged to come along and enjoy the action, with free entry available throughout the tournament.
