Recreational Quaich Set for Dumfries Ice Bowl This Weekend

The SIH Recreational Section returns to Dumfries Ice Bowl this weekend for the 2026 Recreational Quaich, with 10 teams set to battle it out across two days of action on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 May.

As the third tier of the SIH Recreational tournament structure, the Quaich continues to provide a competitive environment for clubs from across Scotland, with promotion, relegation and silverware all on the line.

Teams have been split into two pools of five following the draw at the Recreational JMC meeting held on Tuesday 25 November 2025.   Each team will face the other sides in their own group before the top two from each pool progress to the semi-finals.

A total of 23 games will be played over the course of the weekend, with every match consisting of two 20-minute periods played with a running clock. The final two minutes of each game will be stop-clock hockey, ensuring tight contests can go right down to the wire.

There is plenty at stake throughout the tournament. The two finalists will earn promotion to the 2027 Recreational Plate competition, while the bottom-placed side in each pool will be relegated to the 2027 Recreational Bowl.

Pool A

  • Caledonian Thunder
  • Aberdeen Predators
  • Mariners
  • Dundee Pirates
  • Aviemore Avalanche

Pool B

  • Lowland Raiders
  • Edinburgh Stingers
  • Dundee Devils
  • Paisley Buccaneers
  • Dundee Wildcats

The semi-finals will see the winners of Pool A face the runners-up from Pool B, while the winners of Pool B will take on the runners-up from Pool A. Should either semi-final finish level, the game will be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

The tournament final takes place on Sunday evening following a packed schedule of round-robin fixtures across both days.

Supporters are encouraged to head along to Dumfries Ice Bowl and support the recreational game, with free entry available throughout the weekend.
