Developing the Next Generation: Scotland Hosts First 4 Nations Weekend

The event marks another major step forward in Scottish Ice Hockey’s growing development programme, with a clear focus on creating meaningful opportunities for young players to experience high-performance environments and international competition at an early stage of their development.

As Scottish Ice Hockey’s first-ever 4 Nations Development Event, the weekend has been designed to be far more than just a tournament. The programme aims to help players, coaches, referees and goalies develop through a combination of full international-style games and collaborative practice sessions, where players train alongside athletes from other nations before competing against them later in the event.

The development model places learning and long-term athlete development ahead of results, giving players exposure to different coaching styles, systems and approaches while encouraging growth through both training and competition.

Scottish Ice Hockey’s philosophy centres around helping players transfer what they learn in practice directly into game situations. The event structure has been built to maximise engagement, decision making, communication and game realism within an international setting.

Alongside the U15 fixtures, the weekend will also feature U11 games, dedicated goalie development sessions and referee development opportunities as part of an integrated pathway approach supporting every area of the game.

Scotland will open their international schedule against Belgium on Saturday evening before facing Spain on Sunday and England on Monday afternoon in Kirkcaldy.

The 4 Nations Development Event represents an important milestone for Scottish Ice Hockey as the organisation continues to expand and strengthen its player development pathway while building relationships with developing hockey nations across Europe.

Entry to the event is free for supporters wishing to attend and watch the action live at Fife Ice Arena across the weekend. For those unable to make it to Kirkcaldy, every game will also be streamed live via Scottish Ice Hockey TV.
