Great Britain were beaten 7-1 by hosts Slovakia in their sixth game at the World Championship in Kosice on Saturday.
Mike Hammond was on target for GB late in the first period as he scored his third goal of the tournament.
There was also a debut cap for Tom Murdy who took to the bench in the first period after Jackson Whistle replaced Ben Bowns, who was withdrawn after taking a minor knock.
Montreal Canadiens star Tomas Tatar was amongst the scorers for Slovakia in a match they never looked like losing.
Whistle, who played over 44 minutes after replacing Bowns, said: “It was good to get some ice-time.
“We came up against another top-quality side, but credit to the boys they kept on going – and I felt we got better as the game went on and we finished strong.
“Despite not getting a win there is great belief in our room and we know we have been close in some games to picking up a result.
“We know it will probably come down to Monday against France, but we will be focused and ready to go.”
