Solway Sharks’ head coach Martin Grubb says he was pleased to see his new-look team get off to a flying start in the Scottish National League (SNL).
The Sharks opened the campaign in impressive fashion, romping to a 17-2 victory over Belfast Giants SNL at Dumfries Ice Bowl.
Iain Bowie, Scott Henderson and Lewis Houston all bagged hat-tricks for the home side and Grubb believes the performance will not have gone unnoticed by other teams.
“It was great to get the season underway with this new team,” said Grubb. “I think everyone has seen the speed, skill and goal threat that we have in this line-up and it was pleasing to get such a positive result.
“Belfast came and worked hard for the full sixty minutes – we had to make sure that we came to play and some of the goals we scored were really nice.
“We were able to give everyone plenty of ice time in all situations and it was nice to see the new guys slotting in so well.
“There was a good crowd and we all wanted to put on an exciting performance for them and give them a glimpse of what kind of style we are trying to play and hopefully they all went home happy.”
Sharks face a double-header in the league this weekend, hosting Dundee Comets on Saturday before travelling to meet Kirkcaldy Kestrels the following day.
