SIH Recreational Bowl Set for Landmark Weekend

The continued growth of Scottish Ice Hockey’s Recreational section is reflected once again as the SIH Recreational Bowl returns this season with a milestone moment for the competition, taking place across 2–3 May.

For the first time since the Bowl was introduced, 10 affiliated clubs will take to the ice, underlining the strength and depth of the recreational game since returning in 2022. What began as a developing level within the SIH structure has quickly evolved into a competitive and well-supported tier, and this year’s event is set to showcase that progress across a packed weekend of hockey.

The format sees teams split into two pools of five, with each side playing four round-robin matches. From there, the top teams will progress into the semi-finals before competing for the title, bringing the total to 23 games across two days. It’s a schedule that keeps the ice busy and ensures every game carries weight as teams push for a place in the knockout stages.

As the fourth tier within the SIH Recreational tournament structure, the Bowl plays an important role in the pathway of the section. It offers developing teams the chance to compete in a structured national competition, while also raising the standard year on year. There’s plenty on the line too, with this season’s finalists earning promotion to the 2027 Quaich competition.

Across both pools, there’s a strong mix of clubs representing different areas of the country, each bringing their own style and experience into the weekend.

Pool A

  • Renfrew Ravens
  • Coatbridge Redwing
  • Galloway Grizzlies
  • The Kraken
  • Lossiemouth Jets

Pool B

  • Inverness Hurricanes
  • Hamilton Hawks
  • Ayrshire Vikings
  • Belfast Foxes
  • Kilmarnock Piranhas

With short turnarounds between games and a busy fixture list, consistency will be key. Teams will need to manage their benches, stay disciplined, and make the most of every opportunity as the group stages unfold.

The Bowl has built a reputation for competitive games played in the right spirit, and this year looks no different. There’s a clear edge to every matchup, but the focus remains on participation, development, and giving players meaningful ice time in a national setting.

Supporters are encouraged to check the schedule, pick out their games, and come along across the weekend. Entry is free, making it an ideal opportunity to see the recreational side of the sport up close and support the clubs involved.

With 23 games, 10 teams, and a step up to the Quaich on the line, the SIH Recreational Bowl is set for a full weekend of action on 2–3 May.
