SNL preview: Scottish trio set for for battle in the NIHL North Cup

The NIHL North Cup takes centre stage this weekend, with all three Scottish National League (SNL) teams in action in the cross-border competition.

Solway Sharks host Murrayfield Racers on Saturday aiming to maintain their unbeaten record in the five-team group.

The Sharks recovered from a three-goal deficit to win 4-3 in the reverse fixture and will be confident of completing the double at the Dumfries Ice Bowl.

The Racers return to home ice the following day as they go head-to-head with Billingham Stars.

The Teesiders have won just one of their first three matches in the competition and will be eager to improve that record this weekend.

Dundee Comets face a tough test on Sunday as they head south to face Moralee D1 leaders Whitley Warriors.

The Warriors were beaten by Solway in their first game in the group, but bounced back with an impressive 8-3 home victory over Billingham.

There are also three fixtures in the SNL this weekend, with Kilmarnock Thunder versus North Ayrshire Wild kicking things off on Saturday.

The two sides have already met twice in the Stuart Robertson Cup (SRC) this term, with Wild winning comfortably on both occasions.

Dundee Tigers host Aberdeen Lynx on Sunday hoping to gain revenge for two defeats by the same opponents in the SRC during September.

Lynx triumphed 2-1 on the road and followed up with a 9-5 success back on home ice.

Kirkcaldy Kestrels take on Paisley Pirates in Sunday’s final game aiming to build on their impressive SRC victory over Aberdeen in their last outing.

The Pirates head into the match on the back of a comprehensive 14-3 league defeat at Solway.
