WEEKEND PREVIEW: The race for a place in the Playoffs begins

All teams will be looking to secure a win and gain some momentum going into the final stages of the season.

The Aberdeen Lynx will be the favourites going into their game against North Ayrshire Wild having already secured the league title. But they will be wary of their opponents, who caused an upset last season when they scuppered the Lynx’s chances in the Playoffs.

North Ayr Wild Coach, Domenico DeSimone said, “Our team is mostly made up of u19s and young players and although it has been a hard season I couldn’t be more proud of them.

They have stuck with it week after week, game after game, and have committed everything to us, me and the jersey.  They have never let us down and I am so proud of what they have achieved at such young ages.

As a coach I feel so lucky to be able to work with such a fantastic group of guys.

It’s always a great atmosphere in Aberdeen and fantastic experience for our young team. It’s a clean slate going into the Playoffs and I’m confident the guys will do everything that is asked of them.”

The Edinburgh Capitals will be facing a challenge in Kilmarnock Thunder, who have proven they can be formidable opponents. The Capitals will be looking to make up for their narrow miss in the league and gain an advantage in the playoff race.

The match between the Comets and the Kestrels promises to be an exhilarating encounter, with both teams in excellent form.

Kestrels coach Steven Wishart said, “The guys have been on a good solid run of late, taking it one game at a time with the goal of having a good end to the season.

We’ve been building good momentum to take into the play-offs which is what we’ve been asking of the group.

Our goal, of course, I’m sure like any other team, is to try and make the play-off-final weekend in Edinburgh. That’s what we’ll be aiming to do and our focus has been on the play-offs for a while now. That’s our main aim, to try and end the season on a high.”

Finally, the game between the Paisley Pirates and Dundee Tigers is set to be a physical encounter, with both teams known for their physical play. It will be a close game, with both teams evenly matched and looking to secure a win.

Overall, it promises to be an exciting weekend of ice hockey, with plenty of close encounters and thrilling action on the ice. The teams will be giving their all to secure a win and advance to the next stage of the playoffs.
