We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our Scotland National Development Programme to include a dedicated Scotland Girls’ Development section. This step formalises girls-specific training as part of our commitment to the growth and support of female ice hockey in Scotland.
Murray Johnston, Development Pathway Lead, stated, “The girls’ game is growing in Scotland just like the rest of the world. Scottish girls’ coaches have done a fantastic job with limited resources over recent years, and we all agree it’s time to bring them fully into the programme, granting access to all the benefits and facilities we offer. Our aim is to grow the women’s game in Scotland while celebrating and building on the remarkable work already done by the Steel Queens, Solway Sharks, and the Scottish Girls’ Programme. This is a great step forward for the female game in Scotland.”
Jamie Turnbull, Scotland Girls’ Head Coach, added, “The Scotland girls are thrilled to join the National Development Programme. For several years, the coaching team has worked tirelessly to grow the girls’ game, creating an environment where they can build confidence, learn new skills, compete, and have fun. Every session provides something they can take away and apply at their own clubs. Though we’ve always strived to do more, it’s never been easy or cost-effective. Joining the National Development Programme gives us exactly what we need to elevate the girls’ game to new heights. National Development has the right contacts and people in place to make great things happen. We’re all excited to see what the future holds for girls’ and women’s hockey.”
With this integration, Scotland Girls’ training will now be part of the Scotland National Development Days. Clubs have been contacted and are invited to put forward the names of their female players for this exciting opportunity.
More information to follow. Stay tuned for updates on schedules, locations, and additional resources as we continue to grow female ice hockey in Scotland.
