New Operations Manager and Development Pathway Lead Appointed

Scottish Ice Hockey is thrilled to announce two strategic appointments that will drive the organization’s growth and success. Tony Kierans joins as Operations Manager, while Murray Johnston steps into the role of Development Pathway Lead. These key positions will play a crucial role in advancing our National Development Program and enhancing our competition structures.

Strengthening Operations and Development

Tony Kierans, our new Operations Manager, brings a wealth of experience to Scottish Ice Hockey. In his role, Tony will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring that our programs run smoothly and efficiently.

His expertise will be instrumental in optimising our existing structures and processes, guaranteeing that our competitions and events not only succeed each year but also contribute significantly to the sport’s development in Scotland.

Murray Johnston takes on the critical position of Development Pathway Lead. His role is pivotal in realizing Scottish Ice Hockey’s long-term vision. Murray will craft and implement a comprehensive development pathway that elevates our National Development Program while reinforcing our grassroots initiatives.

His approach recognises the deep connection between elite success and grassroots development, focusing on delivering an elite-level experience for top athletes while nurturing talent from the ground up.

Leadership Perspectives

Jamie Thomson, Head of Hockey Operations and recent appointee to the Ice Hockey UK (IHUK) board, expressed his enthusiasm for the new appointments:

“The addition of Tony and Murray marks a significant step forward for Scottish Ice Hockey. Their expertise will be invaluable as we refine and strengthen our programs. As my operational involvement gradually decreases due to my new IHUK board role, I’m confident that under their leadership, Scottish Ice Hockey will continue to thrive and make substantial contributions to the sport nationally and internationally.”

John Colley, Chair of Scottish Ice Hockey, highlighted the strategic importance of these roles:

“These appointments are crucial for the next chapter of our growth. By expanding our management team, we’re ensuring we can sustain and accelerate our improvement journey. While we’ve made great progress, there’s still much to achieve, especially in junior development and membership growth. Tony and Murray will strengthen our efforts in these key areas, helping us build a brighter future for Scottish Ice Hockey.”

Commitment to Excellence

The appointments of Tony Kierans and Murray Johnston underscore Scottish Ice Hockey’s dedication to strengthening the sport at every level. By focusing on robust operational management and clear development pathways, we’re laying the foundation for future successes. This approach will ensure that Scottish Ice Hockey continues to grow, improve, and make significant contributions to the sport on a broader scale.

We look forward to the positive impact Tony and Murray will have in their respective roles and the continued success of Scottish Ice Hockey.
