Dundee Comets started their NIHL Moralee Cup (North) Cup campaign with a narrow 5-3 defeat at Solway Sharks on Saturday.
Iain Bowie topped the scoring for the Sharks with a hat-trick, but the Comets’ performance will give them hope that they can be competitive in the four-team group.
The Scottish National League (SNL) club have assembled a strong-looking roster this season, with Craig Holland, Cam McGiffin and Joel Gautschi amongst their most notable signings.
Elsewhere, Kirkcaldy Kestrels and North Ayrshire Wild have started their preparations for the upcoming campaign with a pair of challenge games over the past two weekends.
The Kestrels ran out 4-1 winners on home ice and followed up with an 8-2 victory in the reverse fixture.
The Kirkcaldy outfit have also assembled an impressive squad that includes prolific forwards Chad Smith and Aaron Robertson.
Wild’s standout signing announcement to date is forward Aidan Fulton, who previously iced extensively for Braehead Clan in the Elite League.
Murrayfield Racers have confirmed three signings during the past week – Rihards Grigors, Euan Simpson and Dean Walker.
Dundee Tigers kicked off their signings by securing the services of former Comets netminder Matthew Michie.
