With two double headers it was a full on weekend of SNL action.
Edinburgh Capitals took home a 5-2 win against Aberdeen Lynx on Saturday in front of a sell out crowd at the Linx Ice Arena.
A tense game with the just 1 point separating the two teams at the top, it was all to play for.
The Caps got off to a good start with Chad Smith grabbing the opener 8 minutes in.
A short handed goal from Sean Cochrane saw the Capitals 2-0 up but Kyle Macphail for the Lynx narrowed their lead 3 minutes later. The Caps scored again late in the 2nd ending the period 3-1.
Capitals Chad Smith scored his 2nd goal of the night on the power play just 1 minute into the 3rd, but its wasn’t long before Owen Michie netted another goal for the home side.
Tensions were rising with both sides fighting for the two points and top spot. Caps scored again, but the Lynx just couldn’t get the puck past the Capitals net minder Craig Chalmers.
It was a rollercoaster of a weekend for the Pirates with two home fixtures, bagging them 3 points and elevating them to 4th place in the league.
North Ayrshire Wild headed to Braehead Area on Saturday to take on the Pirates. It was set to be challenging for the young side from North Ayr play with a bigger ice pad against hard hitting opponents.
The first period finished 0-0 with Wild’s netminder Evan McTaggart kept busy saving the 11 shots on goal.
Dean Hamilton for the Pirates opened the scoring 4 minutes into the 2nd but it was the third period that saw most of the action.
Pirates Kris Phillips took the Paisley side to 2-0 early in the period but NA Wild’s Luca De Simone narrowed the deficit with a power play goal.
With their 3rd goal of the night just seconds from the end the Pirates chalked up their first points of the weekend.
Fresh from their games the previous evening Aberdeen Lynx and Paisley Pirates went head to head in a hard fought game. The Aberdeen Lynx were looking for the win to take back top spot.
Late in the 1st Kyle Ferguson for the Lynx opened the scoring. But it was into the 2nd period before Pirates Gary Simpson levelled the score.
Even with both sides putting in some hard shifts the score was tied and it went to overtime. With less than a minute on the clock, Aberdeen’s Ben Edmonds bagged the winning goal.
The Lynx took the two points and the Pirates got 1 point as the game went to OT.

The Kestrels bagged a 8-2 win against the Kilmarnock Thunder on Saturday continuing their winning streak.
Kestrels Head Coach Steven Wishart said, “It was a great performance from the guys, they were engaged from the first puck drop and competed hard right to the end.
They deserve credit for the way they adapted and stuck to the game plan, it’s never an easy place to go with such a small ice pad.
We had to tweak a few things and play to a different system than we are used to so I’m delighted how well they executed it.”
Both sides spent plenty of game time in the penalty box but with Graeme Allan and Scott Jamison scoring half of the Kestrels goals of the night, they proved to be the stronger team on the night.
Dundee fans were once again treated to a Derby as Comets and Tigers played at home this weekend.
So far this season the Comets have won 2 league games and lost one against their neighbours.
Bernard Brown for the Comets was first on the scoreboard just 2 minutes in but Rio Page for the Tigers levelled the scoring by the end of the period.
All even Bernard Brown scored his second goal of the night and the Comets went ahead. Harvey Topen equalised just 2 minutes later.
It was all to play for after the 2nd break but the Comets found that extra gear and racked up a further two goals and taking 3rd place in the league table.
