Ex-San Jose Sharks forward wings in for ‘Friday Night Live’

The SIH National Coaching Team will be joined on this week’s ‘Friday Night Live’ by ex-NHL star Dody Wood.

Some people within Scottish Ice Hockey will remember Wood from the season he spent with Ayr Scottish Eagles in 2001/02.

He joined Nottingham Panthers the following season but is better known for playing 106 games for San Jose Sharks in the NHL.

Wood amassed 471 penalty minutes in those games playing the enforcer role. He also racked up more than 350 games in the IHL and AHL during his career.

The feisty forward will speak to SIH players, coaches and officials about his life inside and outside of hockey, and there will undoubtedly be some interesting stories.

He will also spend time discussing important mental health issues, before finishing with a question and answer session.

SIH coach, Martyn King, said: “We’re delighted to have an ex-player like Dody joining us for ‘Friday Night Live’ as we continue to keep our sport alive during the lockdown.

“After this week’s government announcement, it would appear that we are still a few weeks away from being able to return to the ice.

Steven (Lynch), Barry (Carnegie) and I will continue to drive FNL and other webinars to keep players, coaches and parents thinking about hockey until the rinks open again.”
