Match officials handed new guidelines for dealing with discriminatory behaviour

Following a noticeable increase of reports of racist and homophobic abuse between players, SIH and the EIHA have reviewed their in-house rules and inserted more clarity around what they would like referees to do in these circumstances.

This type of behaviour has no place in ice hockey and match officials have a role to play in ensuring that everything possible is done to take it out of our sport.

Players should be playing the sport and not spending their time abusing each other with comments during play or at stoppages of play. The rule amendment is shown below and can be found on page 17 of the in-house rules.
