Murrayfield U16 pipped at the post by Lanarkshire Lightning

It was another busy weekend for Murrayfield Junior Ice Hockey Club, with teams taking to the ice in four different age groups.

The U16 side faced their counterparts from Lanarkshire Lightning aiming to record their second victory of the season.

Lanarkshire took the lead after five minutes, but Finlay Francey’s powerplay goal in the 22nd minute brought Murrayfield level.

Both teams went in search of the winner in the final period and it was Lanarkshire who would go on to claim the points with their second of the game after 38 minutes.

Murrayfield’s U14 team found things tougher at Fife Ice Arena, falling to a 13-1 defeat against Kirkcaldy Chiefs – Josh Sangster grabbed their solitary goal.

The U12s were defeated 6-1 at home to Ayr Bruins, with the visitors’ netminder producing an inspired display to keep them at bay. Cory Nicol grabbed Murrayfield’s goal.

The club’s U10s gained some valuable experience as they took on Lanarkshire at Murrayfield Ice Rink.

Head coach, Steven Francey, said: “The U10s were hosting our friends from Lanarkshire at our first ever cross ice and 3/4 ice game event.

“The event was an absolute success with both teams working very hard at all times and some beautiful play from our more senior U10s was on display. This was capped off with a man of match performance from Harry Hudson.

“We pass on our thanks to the Murrayfield Ice Rink staff who helped make this event take place.”
