Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH) will move into a new era this weekend when two of its junior teams take part in the first-ever SIH Nationals event at Dumfries Ice Bowl.
Scotland U15 and U17 will face England North and England South teams in a series of games designed to boost player development.
SIH Nationals will help to prepare players to progress in senior hockey and boost their prospects of making an impact with the Great Britain programme.
A second event will be staged next weekend and will see Scotland U11 and U13 play teams from the England set-up.
North Ayrshire Ice Hockey Club forward Flynn Massie is part of the U15 squad this weekend and is looking forward to representing Scotland.
“COVID-19 has taken two years out of hockey for us, so we are all looking forward to this weekend,” he said.
“I’m feeling good about this weekend – it’s going to be a good challenge for the boys.
“I’m nervous about four-line hockey as this is a first for the Scotland team, but we have been training hard, and the coaches have been giving us great advice.
“I think we will miss the old Sheffield Conference weekends, but this is the new way forward for us.
“We will grow as a group, keep improving and hopefully show England what we are made of.”
