Solway Sharks’ head coach Martin Grubb gave his players a collective pat on the back after their 7-4 victory over Billingham Stars on Saturday.
The result ensured Solway maintained their unbeaten record in the NIHL North Cup and kept them three points clear of Whitley Warriors at the top of the standings.
Another point would guarantee the Sharks first place in the group and set up a probable semi-final tie against the Stars or Murrayfield Racers.
Grubb said: “We knew coming into this game that Billingham were a very offensive team and that we needed to be solid in our own zone.
“We wanted to make them play defence as they don’t like that and I thought we generally did a good job of that.
“We created plenty of chances and could have been a bit more clinical, but it’s always tough against good teams and I felt we dominated the game.
“We were a little slack on their goals as we gifted them a couple to keep them in the game, but we had enough of a threat even missing a few injured players to get the job done and keep our momentum going.”
