PREVIEW: Clash of the Titans as league leaders face off

The atmosphere in Aberdeen is going to be electric tonight as Edinburgh Capitals head to the Granite City to take on league leaders Aberdeen Lynx.

The Lynx had a strong first half of the season dominating the top of the table and have won 16 out 20 games they have played so far.

It was a tough start to the season for the title challengers, with no home ice until November, their first game back at Murrayfield Arena was a hard fought game against the Lynx.

The Edinburgh side have progressed their way up the standings and with a 4 game winning streak so it’s all to play for as the fight for the top intensifies.

Lynx coach Jordan Leyden said about the game ahead: “It’s a massive game this weekend but the team is looking good and worked hard to be as best prepared we can be.

We played in their first game back in Edinburgh and they had huge support. We fortunately came out of that with the result but they’ve been on a good run and we know we have to be at our best to come out with a similar result.”

With a double header this weekend as they play the Pirates on Sunday evening there is a potential 4 points up for grabs for Aberdeen which could give them a bit of breathing space with the Capitals hot on their heels and the Playoffs only weeks away.

Coach Leydens commented, “I haven’t thought too much on end of season or playoffs. We are only focussed on the task at hand this weekend.”

The Pirates also have a double header at home this weekend taking on North Ayrshire Wild tonight the Lynx tomorrow.

The Paisley side have struggled to find their form in their last couple of games, but only 2 points behind the Dundee Comets they will be looking to turn things around. In their last meet with the Lynx the Pirates clinched a 7-5 win.

Kirkcaldy Kestrels will be on the road for their away game against Kilmarnock Thunder today. Kestrels are sitting 6th in the league on 22 points with Thunder  in 8th place.

Although the Fife side have a 8 point lead and 2 games in hand, Thunder snatched the win by a single goal both times they met in October.

Spirits will be high for the Kestrels after their performance last weekend with a home win against North Ayrshire Wild, but they will be looking for redemption.

It’s Derby day in Dundee tomorrow. With the Comets and Tigers playing on home ice it’s set to be a close scoreline with both of their previous Derby games concluding in overtime.

Sitting 3rd in the league table, the Tigers are only 1 point ahead of the Comets and 4 points behind Edinburgh Capitals.
