Just three SNL games are on the schedule this weekend, with Aberdeen Lynx facing a demanding double-header on the road and North Ayrshire Wild welcoming Paisley Pirates to Auchenharvie.
For Aberdeen, it will be a challenging weekend with two different tests in the space of 24 hours, beginning with a trip south to face Whitley Warriors on Saturday before heading to Dumfries to take on Solway Sharks SNL on Sunday.
Whitley Warriors v Aberdeen Lynx
Aberdeen will be familiar with the journey to Whitley Bay after making the trip four times across league, cup and playoff competition last season. Saturday brings another visit, but with a Lynx side that has undergone significant changes since then.
A number of younger players are now taking on increased roles within the Aberdeen line-up, and they will come up against an experienced Whitley side which has made a strong start to the new campaign.
The Warriors have won all three of their opening league games and currently sit top of the table on six points. Dundee Rockets are level with them after also winning their opening three games, meaning Whitley will be looking to keep pace at the top as the early standings begin to develop.
Whitley have conceded just one goal across those opening three victories, and their experience and physicality should provide a demanding test for the younger Aberdeen line-up.
Solway Sharks SNL v Aberdeen Lynx
There is little recovery time for Aberdeen before they head across to Dumfries on Sunday to face Solway Sharks SNL.
The Lynx had the better of the meetings between the sides last season, but Solway are now into their second SNL campaign and are showing signs that they can provide a tougher challenge this time around.
That was evident last weekend when the Sharks pushed Dundee Rockets all the way at the Dumfries Ice Bowl. Solway twice came from behind before taking the game to a penalty shootout, with the Rockets eventually taking the extra point.
Sunday will be Solway’s fifth league game of the season and another opportunity to build on their start as they look to push towards the top end of the table.
For Aberdeen, the challenge is made greater by the quick turnaround from Saturday night in Whitley Bay, with another long journey and a very different test waiting for them in Dumfries.
North Ayrshire Wild v Paisley Pirates
Saturday’s other SNL fixture sees Paisley Pirates make the short journey to Auchenharvie to face North Ayrshire Wild.
Wild picked up their first win of the season last weekend with a 6-4 victory over Kilmarnock Thunder, taking them to two points from their opening four games.
Paisley arrive with a perfect record from their opening two games, although both have been closely fought. The Pirates began their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Solway Sharks SNL before edging Kirkcaldy Kestrels 5-4.
The Pirates have plenty of depth throughout their line-up, giving Wild another tough test as they look to build on last weekend’s first victory of the season. Paisley, meanwhile, will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start and keep themselves among the sides at the top end of the early standings.
Scottish Cup Gets Underway
The Scottish Cup also gets underway this weekend, with Edinburgh Capitals and Solway Sharks meeting in the opening game of this season’s competition.
It marks the first Scottish Cup action of the 2026/27 campaign, with the two sides beginning their cup journey as attention turns to the knockout competition alongside the early weeks of the SNL season.
With three league fixtures and the opening Scottish Cup game on the schedule, there is plenty to follow across another weekend of Scottish ice hockey.
