WEEKEND REVIEW: Kestrels unbeaten run continues

Kirkcaldy Kestrels set the tone with two goals in the opening five minutes to leaving Edinburgh Capitals beaten in a 4-1 result in Fife.

Rolands Dietlavs and Brodie Kay hit the target early on Saturday as Edinburgh marked their return to action for the first time since 2018 and while Joel Gautschi pulled one back, it was one of those nights.

The SNL champions added another through George Pitcaithly as Kestrels ended the first period 3-1 up, with Dietlavs picking up his second late in the third to clinch the points.

Speaking of great starts, Aberdeen Lynx blitzed Paisley Pirates with three goals in the first 11 minutes at Braehead Arena to set them up for a 3-2 win.

Player-coach Jordan Leyden was first on the board, with Mark Laing doubling the lead on the powerplay shortly after.

Joe Durkacz grabbed what proved to be the winning goal on 10:50, leaving Pirates to play catch up.  Although Mikey Dobson and Gary Parker were on target for Paisley, Lynx held on for victory.

North Ayrshire Wild are still without a victory in four attempts after Dundee Tigers got the better of them with a 6-1 victory at Auchenharvie.

Jack Terroni put them ahead in the first before Rio Page and Callum Hill put them three up in the second, with Kyle Forsyth getting Wild’s only marker at the end of the middle session.

However Tigers made the points safe as Ross Johnson struck twice to put the game beyond doubt with Callum Turnbull’s powerplay goal late on the icing on the cake.

Staying in Ayrshire, it was good night for Dundee Comets, who picked up two points with a 9-4 victory at the Galleon.

Ben Brown got the first of his four goals and two assists on the night after only SEVEN SECONDS, with Callum McRae netting twice and one marker each for Richard Hartmann, who picked up four assists as well, Billy Baxter and Scott Geddes.

Kilmarnock’s goals came from Innes Gallacher (2), Ross Chalmers and Richard Thorp.
