WEEKEND REVIEW: Home ice win for the Lynx sees them back at the top.

The Aberdeen Lynx are back at the top of the SNL table after their 8-7 win against Kilmarnock Thunder on Saturday at the packed out Linx Ice Arena.

It was late in first period before Kilmarnock’s Innes Gallacher opened the scoring, his first of 4 goals of the night.

With plenty shots on goal from both sides, it was Dillon Robertson who netted the 2nd goal for the visitors ending the period 2-0.

The Lynx regrouped in the first break and found their extra gear in the 2nd with player/coach Jordan Leyden scoring a short handed goal.

This gave the Aberdeen side the boost they needed and seconds later Tom Johnston equalised. Two more goals followed for the Lynx, finishing the 2nd 4-2.

The last period had the crowd on the edge of their seats, with goals coming thick and fast from both teams.

Thunder’s Torran Anderson and Innes Gallacher scored twice in the space of 2 minutes before pushing ahead with another goal, but Kyle Macphail for the Lynx found the back on the net whilst on the power play.

Two more goals from Aberdeen followed, and with 3 minutes left on the clock the Lynx were up 7-5. Thunder dug deep and Struan Forbes narrowed the gap.

With less than a minute to go Aberdeen’s Kyle Mcphail scored again for a hat trick quickly followed by Innes Gallacher who scored his 4th goal of the evening. But it wasn’t quite enough to clinch the win for the visitors.

All eyes will be on the Lynx v Capitals game next weekend as the battle for top spot intensifies. Tickets for the game are close to selling out and it should be a great atmosphere at the Linx Arena in Aberdeen.

The Kirkcaldy Kestrels also bagged 2 points on Saturday bringing them to 20 points, edging them closer to mid league table, after a 8-0 win against North Ayrshire Wild.

Kestrels assistant captain, Conor Duncan, opened the scoring 15 minutes in. Both sides fought hard, but it was all to play for with 1-0 at the first break.

Fife came out strong in the 2nd with Scott Jamieson scoring his first of two goals. The Kestrels kept the pressure on the young North Ayr team, who were missing some key players, and the period finished 7-0.

The 3rd saw NA Wild rally, but they just couldn’t find the back of the net. Conor Duncan finished the game 8-0 for the Kestrels with his third goal of the night.

Dundee Comets headed to Braehead Arena on Sunday to take take on the Paisley Pirates in a much anticipated game. Both teams were sitting level on 25 points, just two points behind the Dundee Tigers who are third in the league table.

The last time the teams met back in November, the Pirates took the win. But even with the home ice advantage it was set to be a tough game.

Comets Assistant Captain, Drew Rumgay, opened the scoring on the power play with his first of 2 goals but Pirates Dean Hamilton, levelled the scoreline just 2 minutes before the break.

The 2nd saw Drew Rumgay for the Comets score his second goal late in the period, edging the Dundee side ahead 2-1.

It was the third period before the Pirates seemed to find their stride, but a goal from Josh Hamilton kept the Comets ahead.

Pirates Josh Simpson closed the gap netting a goal just 5 minute before the end but it was the Comets that took home the win and the much coveted 2 points.
