Great Britain Women U18 relinquished a two-goal lead as they were beaten 3-2 after overtime by China in their opening game at the World Championship (Division 1B) tournament in Katowice.
Emily Harris scored twice for GB, but goals in the third period by Zhu Junfei and Zeng Youyou tied the game. Qu Yue sealed the victory for China with just 74 seconds to play in the extra session.
Head coach, Cheryl Smith, said: “This is such a disappointing result as we were in control after two periods.
“China’s first goal set in some panic and we let the game get away from us after that.
“There were plenty of positive things out there this afternoon, so we have to take that forward for the rest of the tournament.
“Everyone in the dressing room is frustrated, but we know we can do better and the girls will come back stronger.”
GB are back in action on Friday when they meet Korea (face-off 12noon UK time).
