Scottish Ice Hockey to establish new national junior development events

It was confirmed in a public announcement on 12th January that due to the reformatting of competitions within the English Ice Hockey Association, Scottish Ice Hockey will not be invited to attend the Junior Showcase event scheduled to take place in spring.

Since the announcement, SIH has held positive conversations with our EIHA counterparts to ensure we collectively realise the potential and showcase our junior talent in ice hockey across the United Kingdom.

With that in mind, SIH will establish and host a new annual event that will allow this to happen. The competition will focus on player development in the key age groups with the objective to deliver a world-class exhibition of Scottish and other competing nations’ talent.

A Working Group has been put together to organise the new annual event competitions. As part of the overall Elite Pathway, it is essential that Scotland and Northern Ireland players have a platform to demonstrate their capabilities to the Great Britain National Development Programme.

The Working Group has been given the remit to design and run the competition. The group will work closely with Ice Hockey UK, key stakeholders and the existing Scottish National Development Programme Team as they continue to develop and prepare their teams.

The National Development Day timings for Sunday, 30th January, are as follows:

  • Group A, U17, 07:15 am
  • Group B, U15, 09:00 am
  • Group C, U11, 10:45 am
  • Group D, U13, 12:30 pm

Further announcements regarding the new annual event will be made when our plans are confirmed.
