SNL preview: Two trophies up for grabs at Play-off Finals Weekend

The Scottish National League (SNL) Play-off Finals Weekend takes centre stage over the next couple of days with two trophies up for grabs at Dundee Ice Arena.

The Final Four is the highlight of the two-day event, with the winners of the four-quarter-final ties battling for the SNL Play-off title.

The remaining four teams will contest the newly-created Aurora Cup, setting up what should be an exciting weekend of action.

Aberdeen Lynx and Belfast SNL Giants kick things off in the Aurora Cup semi-final on Saturday, with the winners meeting either Paisley Pirates or Kilmarnock Thunder in the final the following day.

Attention then switches to the Final Four, with Kirkcaldy Kestrels and Dundee Tigers set to clash in the first semi-final.

The Kestrels head into the weekend aiming to complete the double after clinching the league title a few weeks ago.

They defeated Thunder 16-6 on aggregate in the quarter-finals and will fancy their chances of beating the Tigers.

However, they are unlikely to have things their own way, particularly after the way the Tigers booked their place in the Final Four.

A 9-3 aggregate victory over the Pirates was hugely impressive, and it would be foolish to underestimate their chances of success this weekend.

The Tigers have introduced some talented youngsters this season including Rio Page, Owen Kinmond, Gary Kelly and Leo Hendry, and they will be eager to make their mark.

Dundee Comets meet North Ayrshire Wild in the second semi-final to round off the first day.

The Comets eased past the Giants in the quarter-finals, while Wild upset the odds to defeat Lynx after a thrilling shoot-out.

Having never previously progressed to the last four in the play-offs, Wild will be keen to create more history this weekend.
