SNL round-up: Wild edge thriller, Giants bounce back to punish Pirates

Belfast SNL Giants made a solid start to their Scottish National League campaign, picking up two points from their weekend double-header on the road.

The Giants went into the weekend at a distinct disadvantage to both their opponents having not played any pre-season fixtures.

They were unfortunate not to take something from their visit to North Ayrshire Wild on Saturday, with the home side recording a hard-fought 4-3 victory.

With precious game time under their belts, the Giants travelled the following day to face Paisley Pirates at Braehead Arena.

The Pirates had played against North Ayrshire twice in the run-up to the new season, so were well prepared for the Giants’ visit.

However, the Giants produced an excellent display to secure a 7-1 win – Cameron Hamill (2), Rhys Gilfillan, Carter Hamill, Mack Stewart, Adam Robinson and Stevie Balmer got the goals.

Jordan Leyden (3) and James DeMeo (2) were amongst the scorers as Aberdeen Lynx maintained their unbeaten record with a 10-3 success at Kilmarnock Thunder.

Kirkcaldy Kestrels bounced back from their recent defeat at Aberdeen with a 7-4 victory over North Ayrshire at Fife Ice Arena – Chad Smith (4) topped the scoring.

NIHL Moralee Cup semi-finalists Dundee Comets ended the northern group stage of the competition with a 5-3 home win against Billingham Stars.
